Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or case number entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Clay County Court Docket does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained for the time needed to respond and maintain the related correspondence. It is not voluntarily disclosed outside the organization, though a valid legal duty may require disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can cause servers and service providers to collect routine technical information about the visit:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure which pages receive traffic and how visitors move through the resource. Analytics vendors can combine that usage into aggregate reports. A browser can reject cookies, although doing so may change how some features behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
- Sending your search requests to the right partner service
- Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
- Tracking down and fixing technical issues
- Showing ads that may line up with your interests
No Court-Record Data on File
Clay County Court Docket does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case information. It publishes general directions to the Clay County clerks, West Virginia courts, WVPASS, and MCRS. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party case profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted to one of those tools is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices, so review its terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links can lead to clerk pages, trial-court portals, statewide case systems, legal-aid resources, or outside search tools. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review that policy before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may use activity across multiple sites to select ads. That tracking occurs under the provider's systems and practices.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may still be received by:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable standard safeguards are used for collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and this resource cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. Notice that a minor supplied such data may be used to locate and delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with a visitor's place of residence. West Virginia's Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code § 29B-1-3, governs reasonably specific requests for public records held by government custodians; it does not turn this private resource into a government records office. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. The revised text and its effective date will appear here, so visitors should review the current version from time to time.
